4e - the end of time

After two fun filled years the 4e campaign closed with a pair of exciting sessions. These are detailed in the DM's blog and the events don't need repeating here. However, it is the first full campaign that we have finished in some time (we got half way through the Pendragon campaign and I am still a little disappointed that we never finished it), probably because there was a set limit on the play (30th level).

Through this game it became very clear what the group likes and doesn't like, what the play style that suits us is and that collaborative setting building is the key feature to successfully starting a new game. We also have decided to set a time limit on each of the following games, only because we are already backlogging games we want to play. Fading Suns with Fate system, then Dresden Files and then it will be my turn (currently thinking of a Western campaign with a bit of magic thrown in). I think I do better on historical campaigns (the Celtic campaign with Chivalry and Sorcery comes to mind). The finite game model should work for us as we should finish more campaigns and play more variety of games - all to the better.

The 4e campaign worked so well because of the phenomenal memory of the GM, the player buy in and being prepared to author scenes, as well as being open to suggestions from other players as to how to move the character forward story-wise. This shared endeavour enabled us to pull of the best D&D game I have ever played.
