Van Vogt, A. E. (1969) The Silkie, New English Library

A strange story of amazingly powerful beings playing with the laws of the universe. These uber-beings clash over control and one Silkie learns from the other species. Silkies are at home as humans, fish or as living spaceships.

Campaign notes:
Not totally sure how this fits in with the Imperial SF genre but it is a very good read.

Different power levels of beings in society with other variants to keep them in check – useful regarding psionics.

Also dealing with ‘otherness’ – the different etiquette and protocols of societies – such as culture / philosophy and how these are defended / modified. Further insight into the mores – how humans relate to each other - social / cultural expectation.
